These are some of the things I do to stylize my illustrations no matter what reference I'm using.

Sometimes the references we use aren't perfect... maybe the reference doesn't have a strong light source or maybe it just looks a bit flat because there isn't a ton of color variations. For example, the photo of the flower I took for this illustration is gorgeous, but to translate it into a vibrant illustration I had to use some creative license!

The tips I follow are going to help elevate your illustrations and give them ✨ personality ✨ no matter what you're illustrating or what reference photo you are using.
